Honors...One of the premiere all around talents in the country
exploded onto the scene and emerged as one of the best players in school
history as a junior. Starred as one of two staff aces for the Tommies in 2012
cementing himself as a top tier staff ace and potent bat in the middle part of
the St. Thomas order, serving mainly as the designated hitter. Has professional
pedigree with low 90’s fastball and outstanding bat speed to go along with
excellent athleticism and makeup. Named ABCA All-American, D3Baseball.com 1st
Team All American, selected to the 2012 NCAA College World Series
All-Tournament Team, ABCA Midwestern Region Player of the Year, All-Region 1st
Team selection, named Most Valuable Player of the Midwestern Regional
Tournament, 1st Team MIAC-All Conference selection and awarded the
MIAC Pitcher of the Year Award. Thomas becomes the ninth Tommie baseball player
in the last fifteen seasons to be named MIAC Pitcher or Player of the Year
joining Tayler Rahm (2011), Matt Schuld (2010), Lonnie Robinson (2007), Brett
Olson, Brian Krause (2006), Jake Mauer (2001), Chris Olean (1999) and Buzz
Hannahan (1998). First two-way player to be an honored on the ABCA All-Region
and MIAC All-Conference Team, as a pitcher and position player, since Chris
Bullis (’08) was a 1st Team All-Region and MIAC All-Conference
selection as a utility player/pitcher in 2007. Thomas is the first player to
earn All-American honors as both a pitcher and position player in UST Baseball
2012 Season...Finished junior season with an 8-2 record and 2.25 era working 76
innings making 16 appearances, with ten starts, struck out 76 hitters and held
opponents to a team low .225 opponents batting average against. Recorded two
saves, five complete games and two shutouts. Finished MIAC Conference play with
a perfect 4-0 mark, 0.93 era in 29 innings with 34 strikeouts, one save, three
complete games and one shutout while holding hitters to a .162 average against.
Made UST debut against St. Scholastica (2/27/12) on Opening Day starting
game-two of the double-header working 5.2 innings with six strikeouts in the
Tommies 4-3 come from behind victory. Picked up first career UST victory in
relief against Worcester State (3/24/12) in Winter Haven, Florida after
starting the season 0-2 with a 7.31 era in first four appearances, proceeded to
go 7-0 with 0.90 era in the next eleven appearances. Named MIAC Pitcher of the
Week (4/16/12) after posting a complete game shutout with eleven strikeouts
against nationally ranked St. Johns University. Picked up first collegiate hit
with a clutch one-out triple against Hamline University (5/31/12) at the
Metrdome. Registered first multi-hit performance against Augsburg College
(4/4/12) going 2-for-4 with two rbi’s. Launched first UST homerun against St.
Olaf (4/14/12) and went 2-for-3 at the plate with four rbi’s in the Tommies
double-header sweep over the Oles. Named MIAC Player of the Week (4/30/12) after
hitting over .500 with twelve hits, two homeruns and ten rbi’s leading UST to a
school record 21-game win streak. Finished the regular season with a .358
average, 39 hits, six homeruns, 33 rbi’s, 23 runs scored, 8 doubles, 3 triples
and a .633 slugging percentage. Batted .490 in conference play with 24 hits, 3
homeruns and an .857 slugging percentage.
Post Season...Was named the MVP of the Midwestern Regional after going 5-for-7 in the final two games of the tournament with 3 homeruns, two coming in the regional championship versus UW-Whitewater, 7 rbi’s and six runs scored while also defeating defending champion UW-Whitewater on the mound working 8 innings while allowing just one earned run with three strikeouts. Pitched one of the greatest games in UST Baseball history defeating the defending National Champion Marietta Pioneers in game two of the College World Series (5/27/12), gutted out a masterful 9-inning complete game performance allowing just seven hits, one earned run and seven strikeouts in the Tommies dramatic 3-1 victory. Was named to the College World Series All-Tournament Team after posting a .363 on-base percentage with four hits, five rbi’s and three walks at the plate to go along with a 1.00 era in tournament play. Named 2013 Preseason 1st Team All-American Selection. Enters the 2013 season as one of four Tommie team captains.

Junior College...Posted 6-2 record in 21 appearances for DMACC with a 4.03 ERA in 51 innings with 51 strikeouts and limited opponents to a .275 batting average against in 2011. Ranked in the Bears top five in strikeouts, wins, innings pitched, appearances and made four starts while collecting a season-high 8 strikeouts vs Indian Hills (4/12/11). Led ICCAC with .066 earned run average in conference games with a perfect 3-0 record, Academic All-Region Selection in 2011. Helped DMACC win the Region XI Championship and reach the NCAA Junior College World Series in Edin, Oklahoma. Named Athlete of the Week (April 18-25) in the IAAC Conference. Played with the Duluth Huskies of the Northwoods League.
High School...All State, All-Metro and All-Conference performer at Lakeville North High School, ranked third in state in HR’s both Junior and Senior years accumulated a .388 batting average, .800 SLG, .446 OBP with 2.27 ERA with 93 strikeouts in 93 innings pitched. Holds Lakeville North school records for most homeruns in a single season (8) and in career (16). Holds career records for pitching in complete games (9), innings pitched (134) and wins (14). Lions All Star Game Selection (Metro West), Two-Time All Conference (Lake Conference). First Team All Metro Selection. First Team All State for both Star Tribune and Pioneer Press. Was awarded “Most Dedicated Player" by Lakeville Panthers. Team Captain and MVP Award Winner in 2009.
