     Chris Schmitz joined the St. Thomas football coaching staff in the spring of 2008. He coaches the outside linebackers for the Tommies.

     Coach Schmitz came to UST from St. Cloud State University, where he coached the linebackers. He also played for SCSU during the 2002 and 2004 seasons. He took the 2003 season off for a military deployment to Bosnia. During the 2004 season, he notched 65 tackles which ranked him third on the team and was named second team All-NCC. Schmitz transferred to SCSU from Waldorf (Iowa) College, where he played football for two seasons and was a first team academic all-region selection. 

     The Sumner, Iowa, native has a Bachelor’s degree from SCSU and is pursuing a master’s degree in sports science.  He currently resides in Elk River with his three- year-old son, Brayden.
