Wallie Kuchinski joined the Tommie football staff in spring 2008 as defensive coordinator. He helped the Toms make dramatic gains from 2007. UST's defense decreased its rushing yards allowed from 157 ypg (seventh in the MIAC) to 99 ypg (second in MIAC); decreased total defense 375 ypg to 297 ypg; and decreased points allowed from 35 ppg (seventh in MIAC) to 18 ppg (third in MIAC). The 2008 Toms also led the league in sacks and finished
second in pickoffs.

He came to UST after four seasons at Truman State (Mo.) University, where he was the 2007 Bulldogs' Defensive Coordinator. He also served as Truman's strength coach, recruiting coordinator, and equipment coordinator.

Kuchinski was part of a defensive staff that helped the Bulldogs show significant gains. The 2006 Bulldogs ranked fifth in their league as they allowed opponents just 324.2 ypg and had the fifth-best red-zone defense in one of the nation's toughest conference, the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

Prior to Truman, Kuchinski coached defensive linemen at Concordia-St. Paul for one season, where he was intramental in the Golden Bears' NSIC championship run and berth in the 2003 Mineral Water Bowl.

He also previously coached the defensive line for a spring at Bemidji State, and was head eighth-grade coach at Bemidji Middle School.

Kuchinski was a four-year starter at Bemidji State. In 2000, he led the nation in tackles for losses, and his senior year, he was the conference sack leader. He was named a team captain in 2001 and was a unanimous first-team all-conference selection.  He was a member of the most successful Bemidji team in school history, the 2000 squad that finished 9-2.

He graduated from Bemidji State with a bachelor's degree in Physical Education, and earned a Master's degree in Education from Concordia-St. Paul.

He lives in Chanhassen with his wife, Alicia and newborn son Colton.
