Travis Walch joined Glenn Caruso's Macalester staff in January 2006. After working as the special teams coordinator and recruiting coordinator at Macalester, he joined Coach Caruso's St. Thomas staff in 2008 as wide receivers coach and special team's coordinator. Prior to coming to Macalester, Coach Walch served as offensive coordinator at both Carleton College and Winona State University.
Coach Walch was offensive coordinator at Carleton for two seasons before arriving at Macalester, leading a steadily-improved Knight offense. He served as linebacker coach for one season before taking over as offensive coordinator.
Before moving to Carleton, Walch was the offensive coordinator at his alma mater, Winona State. There he directed an offense that broke 20 school records, including pass completions and touchdown passes, and produced a Harlon Hill trophy finalist. He also served as an athletic development and marketing assistant for the WSU athletic department. Winona State won three conference championships during his five years on the staff.
In addition to his coordinating duties, Coach Walch has coached special teams. He has coached four return specialists to all-conference recognition, two of which earned all-region and All-America honors. He also coached three all-conference punters, including a first-team All-America punter.
An NCAA Division II All-America running back at Winona State, he was a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference offensive player of the year and a regional finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy (for the top Division II player in the country). Coach Walch still ranks 8th in NCAA II for scoring in a season with 196 points in 1997. An Academic All-American, Coach Walch graduated Magna Cum Laude from Winona State in 1998 and received a Masters degree in Education from WSU in 2003.
His brother, Carson, was a St. Thomas assistant coach in 2006 before joining the football staff at Winona State in 2007.
