Tommie defensive end Ayo Idowu (SR-Woodbury) on Monday was named MIAC Defensive Player of the Week. It's Idowu's first career MIAC Player of the Week honor, and the first won by a Tommie defender since Sept. 3.
Idowu had a forced fumble and three solo and three assisted tackles, including 1.5 sacks and two tackles for loss. Tommie teammate Chinni Oji recovered Idowu's forced fumble in St. Olaf territory, and it led to a St. Thomas touchdown just two plays later.
UST scored 28 points in a row in the second and third quarters to take control of the game.
Idowu has a team-best 13 tackles for loss in eight games this season. The Tommie defense led all MIAC teams in eight conference games in sacks, fewest points, fewest rushing yards and fewest total yards.
On his career Idowu has 25 TFl and 13.5 sacks and has been a part of Tommie teams that have built a 46-4 record.
