Coach Caruso announces FB's freshman class

June 10, 2009

St. Thomas football coach Glenn Caruso announced today that more than 50 incoming freshman from 45 different high schools have committed to join the Tommie football program this fall.

The group includes eight Action picplayers from Wisconsin and Illinois, one each from Iowa and South Dakota, and nine players from outside the Twin Cities metro area.

“I'm both excited and proud to announce our recruiting class for 2009," Coach Caruso said. "Our coaching staff has worked diligently scouring the state and the Upper Midwest to find some impressive athletes and people. These young men that will be entering our 'Football Family' as members of the 2013 class are amazing in terms of numbers, size and ability, but over time, I believe that what will shine through is the class’ tremendous intangibles that will serve both them and the team to the greatest of their ability.

“Although there are many amazing athletes in the class -- various all state players, high school standouts, state champions, and guys that have put up big numbers during their prep careers -- the top attributes we begin our recruiting process with are those you can't see on paper.  Work ethic, leadership, selflessness, pride in the team and passion for our great sport are prerequisites for us in our recruiting process, and I'm proud to say that these young men, embody those attributes.”

St. Thomas has a Sept. 5 season-opening game at Macalester. The Tommies begin MIAC play Sept. 19 at home vs. St. Olaf. Click here for complete schedule: http://www.tommiesports.com/ftbl/schedule/

In Coach Caruso's first season in 2008, the Tommies took second place in the MIAC and posted a 7-3 record -- a five-win improvement from 2007.
