November 8, 1999
St. Thomas defensive end Andy Kaiser (SO, Mora) Monday was named co-recipient of the MIAC Defensive Player of the Week award. Gustavus' Cameron Scripture was the other recipient.

Kaiser had two sacks and one other tackle for loss among his nine tackles (five solo, four assisted) and led a Tommie defense that held MIAC co-leader Concordia to seven points, 46 rushing yards and 205 yards of offense in a 22-7 UST victory.

With UST leading just 10-7, the Cobbers had first down on the Toms 30 before Kaiser had a tackle for a six-yard loss on the last play of the third quarter then a sack for a five-yard loss on the first play of the fourth quarter. Concordia was knocked out of field goal range amd eventually punted.

Two St. Thomas interceptions in the final 13:00 helped break open the game. On the season, Kaiser has 39 tackles including 9.5 for loss and 5.5 sacks on the MIAC No. 1-ranked defense. He also has three TD catches among his five receptions as a short-yardage tight end. The UST defense has 30 takeaways (14 interceptions, 16 fumble recoveries) in nine games and has allowed just five TDs in the last 18 quarters.
