Toms have five on All-MIAC football team

St. Thomas had three repeat picks on the 40-player All-MIAC football team announced today. The repeat picks, all seniors, are safety Steve Nolander of Albert Lea; linebacker Blane Tetreault of Fridley; and QB Greg Kaiser of Mora. Kaiser led the MIAC ion passing efficiency, while the UST defense was ranked first in yards allowed, rushing yards allowed and passing yards allowed. UST closed 7-2 in the conference for the fourth year in a row, and tied for second for the third consecutive season.
Two other All-MIAC first-team picks were soph DE Andy Kaiser of Mora and senior LB Frank Streit of LeRoy-Ostrander.
The Tommies also had five second-team picks, all seniors -- offensive linemen Brian Hartigan of Western Springs, Ill., and John Stewart of Roseville; DB Darren Nelson of Minneapolis and Holy Angels; LB Scott Solinger of St. Francis; and DT Josh Harrington of LeRoy-Ostrander.
St. John's linebacker Brandon Novak was named MVP, and Bethel offensive tackle Chico Rowland won the Mike Stam Award as the conference's best lineman. John Gagliardi of champion St. John's was named Coach of the Year.
