Tetreault, Nolander get third-team All-West Region

December 1, 1999
St. Thomas had two players named to the third team of the Football Gazette NCAA Division III West Region team announced today. Linebacker Blane Tetreault (SR-Fridley) and strong safety Steve Nolander (SR-Albert Lea) were among 15 MIAC players and 78 total players honored on the three honor teams. The Toms' recipients led a UST defense that ranked first in the conference in fewest yards allowed, fewest rushing yards and fewest passing yards and helped the team finish 7-3 overall and 7-2 in the conference for the second year in a row.

Tetreault finished 1999 with 88 tackles, including 2.5 sacks and 10 for loss, and added four interceptions, four forced fumbles and two recovered fumbles. On his three-year UST career he had 224 tackles (seventh best in school history), eight interceptions and five fumble recoveries and helped the Toms compile a 22-8 record. He was twice chosen first-team All-MIAC.

In 1999 Nolander had 46 tackles, including five for losses and 2.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, four recovered fumbles, two interceptions and a blocked kick. On his four-year career -- three years as a starter -- he had 16 interceptions to rank second on the UST career list, and returned three of them for TDs. He also had 188 tackles and six fumble recoveries. He was a Football Gazette third-team All-American in 1998 and twice was chosen first-team All-MIAC.
