Tommies play 800th football game Saturday vs. Macalester

October 18, 2000
The University of St. Thomas will become just the third Minnesota university to play its 800th football game when the Tommies host Macalester Saturday Oct. 21 at 1 p.m. in its 2000 Homecoming game. The Toms' first official game also was against Macalester, a 34-0 win in 1904.

Among Minnesota institutions, only the University of Minnesota (1,031 games) and Carleton (803) have played more games than St. Thomas. The Gophers are the only team with more football victories.

Another milestone will be reached Saturday in the MIAC when Gustavus plays its 700th game -- a road game at Augsburg. Carleton played its 800th game four weeks ago in a 36-13 loss to St. Thomas.
