Jake Barkley is first-team All-West Region at RB

Barkley voted first team All-West Region by Football Gazette

St. Thomas running back Jake Barkley (SO-Plymouth/Robbinsdale Armstrong) is one of 27 players named first team All-West Region by Football Gazette. Barkley rushed for 1,476 yards, with eight consecutive 100-yard games, in helping the Tommies to a 6-4 record. He ran behind an offensive line from tackle to tackle of four sophomores and one freshman, all in their first seasons as starters. Barkley had four TD runs of 68 or more yards.

Tommie defensive tackle Andy Kaiser (JR-Mora) was named third team All-West Region. A three-year starter, Kaiser had three sacks, a fumble recovery and 70 tackles this season.

Both players are among 81 honorees who go on to the Football Gazette ballot for All-America consideration.

In all, 21 MIAC players were honored -- six from St. John's, three from St. Olaf and Bethel, two from Gustavus, St. Thomas and Augsburg, and one each from Concordia-Moorhead, Carleton and Macalester.
