Sean O'Leary gets MIAC defensive honor
November 5, 2001
St. Thomas defensive end Sean O'Leary (JR-Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln HS) was named Co-Defensive Player of the Week in the MIAC Nov. 5. O'Leary had 3.5 sacks for 28 yards in losses among his seven tackles in Saturday's 35-6 win at Hamline. O'Leary's sack total -- just off the UST single-game record of four -- helped the Tommie defense record seven sacks on the day and hold Hamline to 223 total yards.
O'Leary, in his first season at defensive end, now leads the MIAC with 12.5 sacks in eight games. The Tommies are 7-2 overall and remained tied for first in the MIAC at 7-1. The Toms close their regular season Saturday vs. Bethel at O'Shaughnessy Stadium (1 p.m.), and a victory lets the Tommies claim the school's first conference football championship (shared or outright) since 1990.
