St. Thomas lineman Andy Kaiser named to AFCA's D-III Aztec Bowl all-star game

University of St. Thomas defensive tackle Andy Kaiser (SR-Mora, Minn.) is one of 40 senior players nationally from Division III chosen by the American Football Coaches'
Association (AFCA) to play in the 2001 Aztec Bowl. The D-III all-stars will face the Mexican National team on Dec. 15 in Saltillo, Mexico.

Kaiser, an Accounting major with a 3.83 gpa, started all 40 games in his career and helped the Tommies post a 27-9 record vs. Division III opponents during that stretch. He started both on the offensive and defensive line the last six games
of 2001 and helped the Tommies close 7-3 with a third-place MIAC finish. He had five tackles for losses among his 57 tackles in 2001.

Kaiser finished his career with 244 tackles, 17.5 sacks, three interceptions and three fumble recoveries while scoring four touchdowns. He joins a select group of players to earn first-team All-MIAC honors three consecutive seasons.

It's the second time in the five-year history of the Aztec Bowl that the Tommies have had a player selected -- Ryan Collins played in the inaugural game in December 1997.
