FB's Adam Valenta gets MIAC weekly honor

November 1, 2004
Tommie freshman placekicker Adam Valenta was named MIAC co-Special Teams Player of the Week Monday. The Cedar Rapids, Iowa, native kicked a 24-yard field goal in overtime to let UST escape Gustavus with a 10-7 victory. It was the first game-winning field goal by a Tommie kicker since October 1993.

Valenta shared the award with St. Olaf punter Nate Johnson.

The Tommies have won five in a row to move to 6-1 on the season and 5-1 in the MIAC. They host Hamline Saturday (1 p.m.), and can clinch a top-two MIAC finish and keep postseason hopes alive with a victory.

Valenta is 4-of-7 in field goals and 16-of-18 in PATs this season. He's the sixth Tommie to earn MIAC weekly honors this fall. Peter Ridley has been honored on offense and on special teams; John Kaiser and Steve Groth have been honored on defense; and Ryan Jansen was honored on offense.
