Football has two All-Region honorees

Senior football standouts John Kaiser and Paul Sommerstad were voted second-team All-West Region by Don Hansen's Football Gazette. The pair helped the Tommies to a 7-2 record and conference runner-up finish and aided a defense that ranked among the leaders nationally in pass efficiency defense and turnover margin.
The West honor team included 90 players -- 25 on first team, 25 on second team and 40 on third team.
Kaiser (Mora, Minn.) was named conference Defensive Player of the Week Oct. 4. A four-year starter in his first season at DE, Kaiser had a 25-yard TD return off an interception this season. He finished his career with 244 tackles, 31 tackles, five interceptions, seven sacks, five fumble recoveries, four forced fumbles and one TD. A 2003 AFCA Good Works team honoree with a 3.72 gpa, Kaiser was on the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
Sommerstad (SR-Apple Valley/Eastview), a four-year starter (38 starts), was All-Region and All-MIAC both as a junior and senior and was a 2004 FB Gazette Preseason All-American. On his four-year career he had 231 tackles, eight interceptions, 17 break-ups and one fumble recovery. Sommerstad was named to the 2004 AFCA Good Works Team for exceptional community service. He has a 3.58 gpa in Finance.
