Tommie Football gives 2004 team postseason awards

Seniors John Kaiser, Peter Ridley and Chris Husby received the top team awards for the 2004 St. Thomas football team at the Dec. 12 team banquet.
Kaiser (SR-Mora), a four-year starter, was chosen Defensive MVP and Team MVP. Ridley (SR-West St. Paul/St. Thomas Academy), was named Offensive MVP after a breakout season as a running back. Husby (SR-Plymouth/Robbinsdale Armstrong), was named UST's Special Teams MVP after a solid season as starting punter.
Four other awards were announced at the banquet:
--The Father Lavin Award for his Christian ideals displayed on and off the field went to CB David Rains (SR-Maple Plain/Mayer Lutheran)
--The Jerry Pugsley Award went to FB Paul Tandberg (JR-Elk Rver)
--The Oil Can Man Award for exceptional sacrifice went to DE Pat Schultz (SR-Jordan/Belle Plaine)
--The Scout Team Offensive MVP was QB Jamal Gipson (FR-Minneapolis North)
--The Scout Team Defensive MVP was DB Tyrone Barze (FR-St. Paul/Johnson).
Six co-captains were named for 2005 -- offensive co-captains will be WR Joel Korte (JR-Elk River), QB Ryan Jansen (SO-Foley) and FB Joe Lepsche (JR-Woodbury); defensive co-captains will be LB Andrew Ubbelohde (JR-Red Wing), DT Ben Kessler (JR-Janesville, Wis.) and DT Mike Rouse (SO-Shoreview/Mounds View).
