FB's Andrew Ubbelohde gets MIAC honor
October 24, 2005
St. Thomas linebacker Andrew Ubbelohde (SR-Red Wing) was named MIAC defensive Player of the Week Monday -- the third time in his career he received the award. Ubbleohde won the award and shared the award as a sophomore in 2003 but played in just six games as a junior due to injuries.
In Saturday's 21-7 win at Carleton, Ubbelohde was in on 16 tackles (three tackles for loss), had a QB hurry and some clutch third-down stops to help St. Thomas halt a two-game losing streak. He led a defense that limited Carleton to 258 total yards and slowed standout R.J. Jackson to 61 yards of offense on 16 touches. Carleton was inside the UST 30-yard-line and driving for a tying score early in the final quarter when Ubbelohde made a one-arm tackle of Jackson on a 3rd-and-4 play to save a big gain. That forced a 4th-and-2, where UST held and regained the momentum.
Ubbelohde has been in on 260 tackles in 21 career starts since 2003 and ranks third in D-III in total tackles this season. He has a 3.81 gpa in Criminal Justice and is a member of Marine ROTC.
The Tommies (2-4 overall, 2-3 MIAC) host Gustavus this Saturday.
