FB's Sauer gets conf. weekly honor

October 15, 2007

St. Thomas quarterback David Sauer (JR-Cold Spring/Rocori) Monday shared MIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Sauer was joined by St. John's QB Alex Kofoed and Concordia QB Jesse Nelson.

It marks the first time since 2004 the Tommies had a conference Offensive Player of the Week.

Sauer threw for three TDs, had a career-best 441 passing yards, had no interceptions and ran for a TD in Saturday's 50-33 comeback win over Augsburg. Sauer completed 35-of-46 passes and rallied UST from a 33-23 deficit in the third quarter as he led four scoring drives of 64, 39, 70 and 60 yards in a game-closing 27-0 flurry. He completed 17-of-20 passes in the second half. He also rushed for 30 yards to finish with 471 yards of total offense. He guided a UST offense that rolled up 33 first downs and 610 yards of offense.

Sauer moved past 3,400 passing yards in 16 career games.
