St. Thomas senior B.J. Viau and his family will sponsor the 12th annual Twin Cities Hoop-A-Thon fundraiser for Huntington's Disease. The event will be held this Sunday from 1-4 p.m. at Falcon Ridge Middle School in Apple Valley (Johnny Cake Road and McAndrews Road). The event has raised more than $400,000 in the first 11 years.
The Twin Cities Hoop-A-Thon is not only a basketball event, but has activities and games for everyone of all ages and abilities. A carnival-like event in the cafeteria features a silent auction, raffles, cake walk, putt putt contests, Nintendo wii and guitar hero contests, special appearences, and food/refreshments provided by our sponsors.
Viau is an All-MIAC basketball player and captain who helped the Tommies to a No. 1 national ranking this season and a conference-record 30-1 finish.
Viau's mother, Debbie, was diagnosed with the disease when B.J. was 10 years old. She now lives in a group home in Apple Valley but was able to attend most of the Tommie games this season.
