
Junior guard Alex Healy scored 21 points on 8-of-9 shooting and the sixth-ranked Tommies closed out a 10-1 record in the month of Janaury with Saturday's 86-51 win over host Macalester in MIAC men's basketball play at the Scots' Leonard Center.
St. Thomas (17-2 overall, 13-1 MIAC) went 6-0 in a 15-day span to close the month and opened up a 2 1-2 game lead on idle Gustavus atop the conference standings.
UST sank 15 of its first 16 shots. The Toms made 8-of-9 from 3-point range in the first half en route to a 53-25 halftime lead. St. Thomas shot 61% on the game, and its starting five combined to sink 19-of-25 attempts.
St. Thomas is 19-0 when Healy has scored in double figures on his career.
Joe Scott had 12 points for the Toms, who had 40 bench points and just 10 turnovers.
The Toms play Monday night at St. Mary's and have a bye on Wednesday.
