M. Basketball wins, stays atop MIAC

St. Thomas went 3-0 in Wednesday night sports, sweeping Macalester in men's and women's basketball and scoring a 2-1 upset of No. 5-ranked UW-River Falls in women's hockey.

 

Men's Basketball

Conner Nord and Dylan Stewart each scored 16 points as No. 15-ranked St. Thomas scored an 89-40 home win over Macalester in Wednesday night’s MIAC men’s basketball play at Schoenecker Arena.

The first-place Tommies (13-3 overall, 11-1 MIAC) kept a half-game lead over St. Olaf atop the conference standings. Thirteen different players scored for UST, which recorded 12 3-pointers and had a 38-25 rebounding advantage.

The Toms play Saturday at Carleton.

Women's Basketball

Taylor Young had 13 points and eight rebounds and Maggie Weiers scored 12 points as the Tommiue women scored a 73-34 road win over Macalester. the Tommies (14-3 overall, 12-2 MIAC) stayed tied for second with Concordia, one game behind St. Mary's.

Women's Hockey

Tommie women's hockey (11-3-3) avenged an early loss to UW-River Falls with Wednesday night's 2-1 victory over the No. 5-ranked Flacons (13-4-3) in River Falls.

Alise Riedel stopped 37 of 38 shots and Hannah Bird scored the go-ahead goal 4:42 into the third period. UST avenged a 9-3 loss to the Falcons back on Nov. 9. Lauren Mumm scored UST's first goal.

UST ran its unbeaten streak to eight (6-0-2).
