Men's Hoops cruises past host St. Olaf, 75-47

Junior Anders Halvorsen had 16 of his career-high 19 points in the second half off the bench as No. 9-ranked St. Thomas (15-2 overall, 12-1 MIAC) cruised to a 75-47 MIAC men's basketball victory Saturday over the host Oles (8-8, 6-5).

The Tommies have won four ganmes in eight days in four different arenas. They maintained their one-game lead atop the MIAc standings over Gustavus, which won 79-72 at Concordia.

UST had a 39-14 advantage in bench scoring. Coach Steve Fritz' team, which never trailed, shot 48% from the floor and had only nine turnovers.

Senior Teddy Archer scored the first three baskets for St. Thomas, which broke to leads of 9-2 and 23-7 and led 34-19 at halftime. The Toms started the second half on an 11-3 run to take control.

The Oles had a four-game win streak halted. They shot just 30% from the field, including only 4-of-23 from 3-point range. Stu Nevlille had 10 points and seven rebounds for St. Olaf.

For UST, Tyler Nicolai had 16 points; Tommy Hannon had nine points and six rebounds; Archer had eight points; Alex Healy had six points, seven rebounds and three steals; and soph Peter Leslie scored seven.

The Toms are home Wednesday to face Augsburg at CU's Gangelhoff Center.
