December 18, 2012

The 8-0 Tommie men's basketball team moved up one spot to No. 4 in this week's national poll by

St. Thomas, off to a 4-0 MIAC start, struggled in its lone game last week but rallied to win in overtime on the road at Bethany Lutheran.

The Tommies’ 113 victories over the last five seasons are the most in Division III. Coach John Tauer's team is averaging 88.1 points per game and is on pace to break a 39-year-old St. Thomas season scoring record.

St. Thomas is home next Friday to play No. 5-ranked UW-Stevens Point. The Pointers are coming off a 72-61 victory last week over then No. 2-ranked UW-Whitewater, last year's NCAA champion.

Friday's winner has a chance to climb even higher as No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan lost Monday night to unranked Salisbury, after the poll voting took place.
