Tommie men’s basketball team (18-1) fell one spot to No. 2 in this week’s d3hoops.com national rankings after taking its first loss of the season last week.
Rochester (N.Y.), one of two remaining Division III unbeatens, replaced St. Thomas atop the poll. Rochester received 23 of 25 first-place votes, with UST taking the other two.
At No. 3 is Whitworth (Wash.), which has won 18 in a row since falling to the Toms 70-65 on its home court in its season opener November.
St. Thomas lost 54-52 on the road at third-place Concordia-Moorhead last Monday but rebounded with victories over St. Mary's and Hamline.
It plays twice on the road this week -- Wednesday night at Carleton and Saturday afternoon at Augsburg. UST starts the week with a three-game lead in the MIAC standings as it chases an unprecedented eighth consecutive conference title.
UST is currently ranked in the top five nationally in five sports -– volleyball (first); football, baseball and men’s basketball (second); and men's indoor track and field (fifth).
