Mike Wrobel gets MIAC weekly basketball honor

St. Thomas forward Mike Wrobel (SR-Willmar) was named MIAC Player of the Week in men's basketball Tuesday.
In a 3-0 finish last week for the Tommies, Wrobel averaged 17.0 ppg and 9.0 rpg. Not only did Wrobel help St. Thomas secure an MIAC playoff week for the 13th time in 14 seasons, he also surpassed 1,000 career points. Wrobel made 18-of-27 field-goal tries (67%) and 15-of-21 at the foul line (71%). Wrobel had 15 points and 10 rebounds in the Toms' 32-point road win at Augsburg; he had 14 points and 10 rebounds in a 14-point home victory over Concordia; and he collected 22 points and seven rebounds in a 16-point road win at St. Olaf.
In the Toms' current five-game winning streak, Wrobel is averaging 16 ppg and 9.2 rpg. He now has 1,040 points and 760 rebounds on his career, and he's had 10 or more rebounds in 15 of his last 29 games.
Wrobel has been nominated for Academic All-District and an NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship. He has a 3.92 grade-point average in Business Marketing.
With Monday's 72-59 win over Macalester, the Tommies have won 11 of their last 13 games and are 18-5 overall and 14-5 in the MIAC.
