Men's Basketball loses by eight at Bethel

February 22, 2004
Senior Nick Schader had 26 points and 11 rebounds and the Tommies shot 53% from the field but it wasn't enough as host Bethel scored a 97-89 win in MIAC men's basketball play Saturday in Arden Hills.

The Tommies (11-14 overall, 9-11 MIAC) play at third-seed Concordia-Moorhead Tuesday (7:30 p.m.) in the first round of the conference playoffs. A Tommie win would send them to Gustavus to play the top-seeded Gusties on Thursday night.

Bethel clinched the fourth seed and will host fifth-seed Carleton in the other first-round game.

Neal Anderson made four 3-point baskets in his 17 points and broke the UST school record for treys with 82, one more than Brendan Finn's 2001-2002 total. Joey Shimek had 10 points and 11 rebounds and Alex weaver scored 12 points.

The Toms, who scored 58 points in the second half, never got closer than four points down the stretch. Bethel's 97 points, which included 10 3-pointers and 31 free throws, were the most allowed by a Tommie team in conference play in 19 seasons.
