Keaton Wendroth was chosen MVP of the 2013 Tommie men’s cross country team.
Two of his teammates also received awards at the postseason banquet – Dylan Baumann was named Most Improved; and Trevor Smith was chosen Rookie of the Year.
Wendroth (JR-Rochester/Mayo) placed 101st out of 275 runners at nationals. He clocked 25:54 and finished in a huge pack –- just 12 seconds away from 70th place. Wendroth, who placed 99th at nationals as a sophomore, finished 17th at the MIAC meet and 15th out of 181 at regionals in a season-best time of 25:31.
Baumann (SO-Wells/United South Central) made dramatic time drops from 2012 and broke into the Tommies’ top seven. He placed 87th out of 181 at regionals. At the MIAC meet, he was UST’s No. 4 finisher in 26:30. That dropped 2:25 and 133 places from his 2012 freshman-year conference race.
Smith (FR-LaCrosse, Wis./Aquinas) placed 39th out of 250 runners at the MIAC meet in 27:05 and was just the second true freshman finisher in the competition. He was the Toms’ No. 8 runner.
