The St. Thomas men's cross country team put five runners in the top eight and took first out of three teams in Saturday's St. Kate's Invite in St. Paul. The Tommies had 25 points to top Luther (50) and Hamline (51).
Tommie sophomore Ben Sathre took second in 12:20.8 over 4,000 meters, one second behind Hamline senior Ian Bauer.
UST had 11 other runners place in the top 45. Brian Sames was third in 12:27; Mike Connell was fifth in 12:35; George Williams was seventh in 12:45; Tyler Iverson was eighth in 12:46; Greg Dowe was 15th in 12:54; Nick Michalak was 19th in 13:01; Crawford Hubbell was 24th in 13:04; Jim Leschke was 30th in 13:11; Pat Bryant was 32nd in 13:12; Biran Farley was 36th in 13:21; and Stu Lombardo was 43rd in 13:34.
Next weekend, UST will take its top seven to Ohio for the Region Rumble, and have others race at the UW-LaCrosse Invite.
