Men's Cross Country has good start; Harmon sharp

August 30, 2003
The St. Thomas men's cross country team started its 2003 season with a low-key timed run with some Minnesota Gophers runners Saturday at the College of St. Catherine. It was a three-mile grass course.

Four Tommies were bunched together at 15:40 and 15:41 -- sophomore Derek Harmon of Burnsville, seniors Sean Brenckman and Nate Coleman, and junior Brock Stepan. Brenckman, Coleman and Stepan all ran on the Tommies' 18th-place NCAA finisher in 2002. Harmon, a Burnsville High graduate, didn't crack the top seven as a freshman. He was the Toms' 11th finisher at the 2002 MIAC meet, where he placed 69th overall.
