The St. Thomas men's cross country team showed good balance in its season-opening race as it placed third among 10 teams at Saturday's St. John's Invitational.
Minnesota State Mankato and St. John's tied for first at 28. The Tommies (88), St. Olaf (161) and Winona State (169) rounded out the top five.
Neil Atzinger (26:45) and Matt Boumeester (26:46) placed 14th and 15th to lead UST. Brian Sames (22nd, 27:18), Rorak Hooten (24th, 27:22), Kyle Brandon (29th, 27:38), Seth Rosvold (30th, 27:45), George Williams (32nd, 27:51), Scott Smith (33rd, 27:55), Nick Michalek (37th, 28:18) and Nick George (38th, 28:22) were the Tommies' third through 10th finishers.
St. Thomas competes again Sept. 21 at the UW-Eau Claire Invite.
