Men's CC runs to 5th of 15 at St. Olaf

The St. Thomas men's cross country team battled heat and humidity and placed fifth of 15 teams at Saturday's Pre-National Meet hosted by St. Olaf College.

Division III power North Central (Ill.) put 10 runners in the top 18 and placed first with 24. Emory (Ga.) and Grinnell (Iowa) shared second place at 92. St. Olaf (157), UST (170) and Loras (176) rounded out the top six teams.

Tommie senior Neil Atzinger placed 16th in a field of 190 finishers in a time of 27:54.78. Other team scorers for UST were Rorak Hooten (30th, 28:24.83); Matt Boumeester (36th, 28:38.98); Greg Dowe (52nd, 29:10.68); and freshman Nick Michalak (67th, 29:49.73). The Tommies' next four finishers were Kyle Brandon (69th, 29:52.03); Nick George (81st, 30:13.53), Evan Schwartz (92nd, 30:35); and Jason Mansur (114th, 31:29).
