Junior Matt Boumeester placed 14th in a field of 187 finishers Saturday to lead the St. Thomas Men's Cross Country team to a fifth-place finish of 18 teams at the Lucian Rosa Invitational hosted by UW-Parkside. The Tommies had four runners break 27:00 in the 8,000-meter race.

Aquinas College placed four runners in the top 10 and won with 37 points. Embry-Riddle (95), MidAmerican Nazarene (117), Indiana Nazarene (134), UST (150), Chicago (154), Taylor (162), Walsh (191) and Spring Arbor (192) rounded out the top half of the team field.

Boumeester finished in 26:08. UST had nine other runners break 28:00 -- Neil Atzinger clocked 26:23 for 20th; Kyle Brandon took 38th in 26:57; Rorak Hooten was 40th in 26:59; Seth Rosvold was 48th in 27:12; Greg Dowe was 51st in 27:15; Brian Sames was 62nd in 27:32; Scott Smith was 68th in 27:36; Nick Michalik was 81st in 27:51; and Nick George was 85th in 27:58.

The Tommies will compete Oct. 27 in the MIAC Championships at St. Paul's Como Golf Course.
