The St. Thomas men's cross country team put four runners in the top eight and placed a close second to host UW-Eau Claire in Friday's Blugold Invite in Colfax, Wis.
Eau Claire scored 46 to top UST's 50 points. UW-River Falls (88), UW-Platteville (170), Minnesota-Duluth (176) and Bethel (182) took the next four team spots.
Macalester's Wade Ekstrom placed first in a field of 270 runners in 25:27. UST' sophomore Ben Sathre was second in 25:29; senior Mike Connell was third in 25:57; senior Brian Sames was fifth in 26:06; and sophomore Tyler Iverson was eighth in 26:17.
Other Tommies in the top 100 were junior Nick Michalek, 39th in 27:04; freshman Pat Bryant was 71st in 27:32; sophomore Crawford Hubbell was 78th in 27:41; freshman Stu Lombardo was 88th in 27:52; and freshman Pat Farley was 99th in 27:57.
The Tommie will run Oct. 17 in two meets. The top seven will compete in Oberlin, Ohio and the rest of the team will compete at the UW-LaCrosse Invite.
