The St. Thomas men's golf team finished fith out of 16 teams -- and second out of nine MIAC schools --in the 54-hole Gustavus Spring Invite, which concluded with 18 holes on Tuesday in Jordan. The Tommies had rounds of 313 and 302 on Monday and 321 in the high winds on Tuesday. Their 936 total was six behind fourth-place UW-Stout and topped Bethel by one stroke and Gustavus by eight shots.
The Tommies' No. 2 team shot 320-325-331/976 and finished in 12th place.
Luther (907) overtook St. John's on the final round to win the team title by five strokes. The Johnnies' No. 2 team took third (923).
For UST, sophomore Sean Barrett shot 78-73-79/230 to tie for ninth in the field of 84 players. Grant Shafranski had Tuesday';s fifth-best round at 76 and tied for 14th at 81-76-76/233. Bill Mullvahill of the No. 2 team shot 77-76-83/236. Ben Jensen (77-83-78/238), Chris Sall (77-77-90) and James Stafford (84-76-88/248) rounded out the Tommies No. 1 team. Other UST players are Zach Barnum (81-83-83/247), Christian Tyllia (83-82-82/247), Brandon Engebos (82-84-83/249) and John Baggenstoss (80-88-83/251).

The Tommies' No. 2 team shot 320-325/645 and sits in 12th place.
St. John's first team (295-301/596) leads Luther (293-304/597) by one stroke atop the standings. The Johnnies' No. 2 team is third (301-306/607).
For UST, sophomore Sean Barrett shot 78-73/151 and is tied for 10th in the field of 84 players. Bill Mullvahill of the No. 2 team shot 77-76/153. The meet concludes Tuesday with 18 holes in Jordan.
