Freshman John Young shot 70 and tied for first in a field of 120 players to help the St. Thomas men's golf team tie for fourth out of 20 teams in Sunday's Twin Cities Classic.
The three-day event was shortened to a single, 18-hole round due to weather.
The Tommies shot 294 and beat Gustavus and 15 other Division III teams. St. John's shot 289 for first place; Illinois Wesleyan shot 291; Concordia-St. Paul shot 293; UST and St. Cloud State shot 294; Nebraska Wesleyan and Manitoba had rounds of 296; and Bethel rounded out the top eight at 298.
James Stafford shot 74; Sean Barrett shot 75; Grant Shafranski shot 76; Michael Mortenson shot 77; and playing unattached, Bill Mulvahill shot 79.
It's the final competition of the fall for the Tommies, who averaged 303.6 over the last six rounds of the fall.
Young is the 13th MIAC player asnd second Tommie to shoot 70 or lower this fall.
