Men's Golf takes second by one shot at Eau Claire

St. Thomas had Monday's low team score and finished just one stroke behind champion St. John's at the 14-team UW-Eau Claire Invite. The two-day, 36-hole competition concluded Monday.

St. John's (302-324/626), St. Thomas (313-314/627), Gustavus (308-320/628), UW-Stout (309-321/630) and Eau Claire II (305-327/632) took the top five spots, and just six strokes separated those squads.

St. Thomas' Mike Mortenson, Grant Shafranski and John Young tied for 11th in a field of 79 players at 157. Young had Monday's fifth best scoore at 77. James Stafford shot 79 on Monday to help the Tommies climb in the standings. Sean Barrett shot 160 to tie for 28th.

The Tommies compete in the 54-hole MIAC Championships, next Saturday through Monday at Coon Rapids' Bunker Hills Golf Course.

Sean Barrett and Mike Mortenson had rounds of 77 on Sunday to help St. Thomas move into sixth place out of 14 teams at the UW-Eau Claire Invite. The two-day, 36-hole competition concludes Monday.

St. John's (302), Eau Claire II (305), Manitoba (306), Gustavus (308), UW-Stout (309), UST (313) and Luther (315) hold the top seven spots.

Barrett and Mortenson share 13th place in a field of 79 players. Grant Shafranski (79), John Young (80) and James Stafford (88) round out the UST lineup.
