Men's Hockey can't close out Cobs, gets 4-4 tie

The St. Thomas men's hockey team scored four goals and never trailed yet still came away with a 4-4 overtime tie in Saturday's MIAC men's hockey game at Concordia-Moorhead.

The Cobbers (4-10-3 overall, 3-3-3 MIAC) scored a short-handed goal late in period two to move within 3-2 and later pulled their goalie and scored an extra-attacker goal with 70 seconds left in regulation.

UST (5-8-4, 2-4-2) got a go-ahead goal from transfer Chris Hickey midway through period three for a 4-3 lead. Alex Arnason scored 3:31 into the game and the Toms also got first-period power-play goals from Kevin Mahoney and Kelly Kranz.

Freshman Tyron Simcoe had 22 saves in 65 minutes in his first collegiate appearance.

St. Thomas got just one point on the weekend despite scoring eight goals. 

The Toms are home next Friday to face Hamline.
