Rob Johnson goal caps comeback win for Men's Hockey

W, 4-3
at St. Mary's (M), January 29, 2010

Rob Johnson's power-play goal midway through period three gave the Tommies their first lead and stood as the game winner as UST posted a 4-3 win over host St. Mary's Friday night in MIAC men's hockey play in Winona.

The Toms (7-9-4 overall, 4-5-2 MIAC) got goals from four different players as they rallied from deficits of 2-0 and 3-2. The Cards (1-16-1, 1-8) were unable to convert on two power-play tries in the last seven minutes and also had a late spell with their goalie pulled.

Senior Steve Murphy -- a transfer from St. Mary's playing his first game at UST -- had two assists and also scored the tying goal early in the third period. Murphy, who wears No. 32 and is a native of Anchorage, Alaska, led the Cardinals in scoring last season with 11 goals and seven assists in 24 games. He also played in 46 games and has seven goals and 11 assists at Curry College. He didn't play last semester.

St. Thomas also got second-period goals from Evan Macintosh and Riley Horgan, the latter his first college goal. Alex Arnason added two assists.

Joe Schraeder had 20 saves in goal.

The teams play again Saturday (7 p.m.) on UST's home ice in Mendota Heights.
