Drew Fielding gets MIAC weekly honor

December 16, 2013

St. Thomas goalie Drew Fielding (JR-Burlington, Ontario) on Monday was named MIAC Player of the Week in men's hockey. It was his second such honor of the season.

Player picFielding stopped all 23 shots in Saturday night’s 3-0 road shutout of No. 9-ranked St. Scholastica. No. 6-ranked UST led just 1-0 through 55:00 but scored an insurance goal and a late empty-net goal to ice the victory.

The Saints, who came in averaging four goals per game, were shutout for the first time in three seasons. UST denied all three Saints' power plays and have killed 14 in a row over five games.

Fielding leads Division III with four shutouts on the season. He has 10 on his three-year career. He has allowed just six goals in the Toms’ current six-game unbeaten streak.

Fielding has a 1.10 goals-against average over his last 15 games with 16 goals allowed.

The Tommies take a break for final exams and the holidays and resume play Jan. 4 at No. 3-ranked St. Norbert.
