Mike Hutton gets MIAC weekly honor

September 16, 2008

St. Thomas forward Mike Hutton (FR-Apple Valley) today was named MIAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week.

Player picHutton led St. Thomas to a 3-0 week and continued his impressive scoring. He scored in the second minute against Bethel in Saturday's 2-0 Tommie victory. After UST fell behind St. Scholastica 1-0 early in Sunday's non-conference game, Hutton scored two goals in an 8:11 span to put the Toms ahead to stay in a 3-1 victory.

Last Wednesday, Hutton drew a lot of St. John's attention and had no goals in UST's 2-1 overtime win.

In six college games, Hutton has seven goals and two assists and has helped the Tommies to the program's first 6-0 start since 1977.

Hutton was an all-state honoree at Apple Valley and helped the Eagles win the 2006 state soccer title. He and his twin brother Nick -- a Minnesota Gopher track and field signee -- also ran on the Eagles' state champion 4x800 relay in June that set a state-meet record. As juniors in 2007, they helped Apple Valley to a runner-up finish at state. Their brother Dan was a standout goalkeeper for UST the last three seasons and helped UST make the playoffs in 2007.
