St. Thomas got two goals from Alex Arnason, and senior Joe Schraeder stopped 22 shots as the Toms scored a 4-1 win over St. Mary's in Saturday night's MIAC men's hockey game in Mendota Heights.
The Toms (8-9-4 overall, 5-5-2 MIAC) outshot the Cards 41-23 and completed a hard-fought weekend sweep.
Rob Johnson scored late in the first period. Arnason and Evan Macintosh scored goals in the second period.
SMU's Ben Kitzmiller scored a power-play goal midway through the final period. But Arnason scored an even-strength goal with six seconds to play to close out the offense and finish with a four-point series.
SMU's Andy Scheib had 37 saves in goal and helped kill off all eight Tommie power-play tries.
The Tommies ended a 12-game winless streak in Saturday games since mid-February 2009. The Toms are 8-3-1 on Fridays in that span but were 0-9-3 on Saturday before this victory.
