Dan Krmpotich and Ryan Hoehn each scored two goals and the host Tommies (13-5-5 overall, 10-3-1 MIAC) secured a No. 2 playoff seed with Saturday's 9-3 victory over Gustavus (9-13-1, 6-7-1) in MIAC men's hockey play in Mendota Heights.

The No. 12-ranked Toms scored the game's last five goals and clinched a top-two conference finish for the 17th time in 18 seasons under Coach Terry Skrypek. They are 12-0-2 in their last 14 games with the Gusties, including Friday's 4-4 tie in St. Peter.

St. Thomas had a season-high scoring output and outshot Gustavus 41-26. That included a 21-7 advantage in the second period when it got goals from five different players. The Toms killed off six of seven Gustie power-play tries.

Krmpotich, who scored two goals in Friday's tie, added two power-play goals Saturday. Kevin Rollwagen, Anthony Blumer, Darin Strand, Andy Panchenko and Nick Harris also had goals for the Toms.

St. Thomas plays Concordia twice at home next weekend -- Friday at 7 p.m., and Saturday at 2 p.m. The Toms will host an MIAC semifinal playoff game Thursday March 3 at 8 p.m., probably against either St. Olaf or Bethel.

Gustavus' Loren Havemeier had a goal and two assists and Kyle Menken had a goal and an assist. The Gusties play Augsburg next weekend and are in a five-team scramble for three playoff spots.
