Two Tommie seniors made the 2007 All-NCAA West Region men's soccer team, chosen by voting of region coaches.

St. Thomas goalkeeper Dan Hutton (SR-Apple Valley) was a first-team honoree, and forward Thomas Gjervold (SR-Eden Prairie) was named to the third team. The last time UST had a first-team All-Region honoree was 1996.

St. Thomas, which had an 11-5-3 record and placed third in the MIAC, had six players, all seniors, honored on the 2007 All-MIAC Men's Soccer teams. Voeller, Gjervold, Hutton, Joe Voeller (SR-White Bear Lake) and Max Weber (SR-Stillwater) were among 20 players on the first team.

Honorable mention all-conference picks were midfielder Adam Michalik (JR-Weston, Wis./D.C. Everest); and Eric Schmitt (SR-Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier), a repeat honoree.

Hutton also was a repeat honoree on the sportsmanship team.

The Tommie seniors helped compile a 44-19-10 record in their era.

In team awards presented at the postseason banquet, Weber was voted team MVP. Five other players received team awards -- Voeller was named Offensive Player of the Year; Schmitt was named Defensive Player of the Year; Reid Moser-Bleil (FR-Burnsville/Holy Angels) was named Rookie of the Year; Kevin Ricter (SO-Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) was named the Most Improved Player; and Hutton received the Coach Flood Award (for the individual player that best exemplifies St. Thomas and the men's soccer program through leadership, teamwork, work ethic, spirit, and dedication):

Also, tri-captains for 2008 were named: Moser-Bliel, goalkeeper Carlos Castelan (JR-St. Paul/Cretin-Derham Hall), and midfielder Taylor Lynch (JR-Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier).

Gjervold (seven goals/six assists in nine games) and Voeller (five goals/three assists in 10 games) finished first and third in MIAC scoring.

Voeller played in 53 games over three seasons at UST and had 21 goals and eight assists for 50 career points. He led the Toms in scoring this season with 10 goals and four assists, and shared the team lead in scoring in 2006 with seven goals and three assists. In all three Tommie ties in 2006, Voeller scored the team's only goal, including the tying goal vs. Augsburg in the 84th minute. He also scored the winning goal in the 84th minute to beat Carroll (Wis.). The Tommies were 14-0-3 on his career when he scored a goal.

Gjervold had nine goals and six assists in 18 games. He missed the key Oct. 27 Gustavus game with an injury and played four days later on a sprained ankle yet scored a goal in a 2-1 playoff loss to the Gusties.

Weber finished his career with 39 points (11 goals, 17 assists) in 66 games, including three goals and four assists this season.

Hutton was a part of 15 shutouts on his career in 49 games. He was 9-3-3 in goal this season with all the losses to nationally-ranked teams. His career record was 24-7-6.

Ricter played in 15 games and had one assist. Moser-Bleil played in all 19 games and had one assist.

Michalik played in 55 career games and had 13 points (five goals, three assists). The Health Promotion major has a 3.50 gpa.

Schmitt played in 68 games and scored two assists on his career. He has a 3.78 gpa in Financial Management.
