Men's Soccer lands two on Academic All-District first team

Tommie men's soccer players Elliot Amundson and Sean Kennedy received first-team Academic All-District honors by ESPN the Magazine and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The two will go onto the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.

Kennedy, a senior native of Portland, Ore., has a 3.98 grade-point average while double majoring in Business MPlayer picanagement and Spanish. He scored two goals in Saturday's 7-0 win over St. Mary's that secured a conference playoff berth. In three varsity seasons, he's played in 45 games and has five goals and two assists, and has helped the Tommies post a 33-17-6 record in his varsity era. Kennedy is also a campus Student Alumni Committe member working specifically on the Community Clean-Up project, and has served as a volunteer coach with Southside Soccer Club and as a holiday volunteer at his hometown Elks Lodge distributing Christmas baskets to the needy.

Amundson,  junior who has a 3.92 gpa in Accounting, has eight goals and four assists for 20 points this season Player picincluding eight goals in his last 13 games. In his second year as a starter, the Minneapolis native and Trinity High grad had a goal and an assist in Saturday's 7-0 win over St. Mary's that secured a conference playoff berth. He scored the game-winning goal on the road in the second OT to beat 15th-ranked Augsburg, and scored a winning goal in the 84th minute at St. John's. He also assisted on a game- winning goal in OT in 2008 to beat St. John's, and  assisted on game-winning goal in second half of a 1-0 win over Northwestern in September. The Tommies are 11-1 in the last two seasons when he's scored a goal or an assist, and he has nine goals and six assists in his last two seasons. He's also served as an accounting tutor, a community volunteer with disabled adults and is a member of the UST string ensemble and a violin teacher. He also participated in a Ronald McDonald House fundraiser.
