
Tommie men's soccer player Elliot Amundson (JR-Minneapolis/Trinity) today was chosen as a third-team Academic All-American on the College Division team by ESPN the Magazine and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Amundson is St. Thomas' first men's soccer Academic All-American in school history and the institution's 65th overall honoree.
Amundson, who has a 3.92 gpa in Accounting, had eight goals and four assists for 20 points this season, including eight goals in his last 14 games. In his second year as a starter, he had a goal and an assist in the Oct. 31 7-0 win over St. Mary's that secured a conference playoff berth.
He scored the game-winning goal on the road in the second OT to beat 15th-ranked Augsburg, and scored a winning goal in the 84th minute at St. John's. He also assisted on a game- winning goal in OT in 2008 to beat St. John's, and assisted on game-winning goal in second half of a 1-0 win over Northwestern in September. The Tommies are 11-1 in the last two seasons when he's scored a goal or an assist, and he has nine goals and six assists in his last two seasons.
He's also served as an accounting tutor, a community volunteer with disabled adults, and is a member of the UST string ensemble and a violin teacher. He also participated in a Ronald McDonald House fundraiser.
One other MIAC men's plater was honored -- Augsburg defenbder Alex Hildebrandt.
