Men's Soccer ties Macalester 0-0 in 2 OT

September 18, 2002
Just like the women's game between the schools 24 hours earlier, the MIAC men's soccer game between Macalester and host St. Thomas ended in a 0-0, two-overtime tie Wednesday on the Tommies' field.

The tie let the Tommies (1-1-2 overall, 0-0-1 MIAC) halt a six-game losing streak to the Scots in the series. Macalester (3-2-1 overall, 0-0-1 MIAC), which has won four of the last five conference championships, ran its unbeaten streak to four on the season.

The game went 110 minutes, but senior goalies Michael Madigan for Macalester (five saves) and Will Loepfe (two saves) didn't fail in the clutch. It was Loepfe's fourth shutout in his last five games dating back to 2001.

The Tommies travel to Wisconsin for two non-conference games this weekend -- Friday vs. Maranatha Baptist in Watertown and Saturday vs. Wisconsin Lutheran in Milwaukee.
