Men's Soccer gets 5-1 win over Northwestern

David Wingard scored two goals in a 10-minute span early in the second half to build a 3-0 lead and host St. Thomas went on to post a 5-1 victory over Northwestern In Tuesday men's soccer play on the Tommies' field in St. Paul.
Wingard scored in the 54th and 64th minutes for the Tommies (3-0), who outshot the Eagles 17-3. Northwestern (0-4) scored on a penalty kick by Trevor Perkins in the 88th minute.
Matt McWilliams had staked the Toms to a 1-0 halftime lead as he scored a header off a corner kick assisted by J.J. Klein in the 12th minute. Nick Radigan scored in the 77th minute and Ben Teeling scored in the 87th minute.
Peder Hatling played the first 45 minutes in goal and improved to 3-0 for the Toms, who improved to 16-2-2 in their last 20 home games.
St. Thomas plays Saturday at UW-Oshkosh.
