Men's Soccer gets 3-0 win over Buena Vista

Newcomers Blake Wojski and Andy Gikling scored goals and soph Ben Teeling scored two assists to lead the St. Thomas men's soccer team (1-0) to a 3-0 win over visiting Buena Vista (1-1) in non-conference soccer play Saturday in St. Paul.
The game was played in steady rain and delayed 60 minutes due to lightning. UST outshot the Beavers 12-5.
Wojski, a transfer from Marquette, took a pass from freshman Vanjelis Ngwa and scored in the 38th minute for a 1-0 Tommie lead. The Toms made it 2-0 as Gikling, a freshman from Cretin-Derham Hall, scored in the 67th minute. Soph Adam Michalik scored in the 74th minute for a 3-0 lead. Teeling, a sophomore from Waukee, Iowa, assisted on the last two goals.
Sophomore Matt Carlson played all 90 minutes in goal for the Toms, who tied a school record with nine shutouts in 2004.
Daniel Padilla played 65 minutes in goal and Mark Maguire played the final 25 minutes for BVU.
St. Thomas plays an alumni scrimmage Sunday (1 p.m.)
