Program Overview

In his six seasons as St. Thomas men’s soccer head coach, former standout player and assistant coach Aaron Macke has build a strong program with a 66-30-13 overall record (.667) and four top-four MIAC finishes.

Macke’s 2002 team tied for third in the conference and finished 10-4-3 overall. The Tommies, who went 5-0-1 in their last six games, posted nine shutouts and allowed just 11 goals in 17 games. The previous four St. Thomas teams averaged 26.5 goals allowed per season. St. Thomas came back to finish 12-7 in 2003 and made the inaugural MIAC playoffs. St. Thomas had an 11-5-2 record in 2004, a 12-4-2 mark in 2005, and a 10-5-3 record in 2006. In 2007, the Tommies took third in the MIAC with an 11-5-3 record.

Macke replaced legendary Denzil Lue, who retired in 2001 after he completed his 23rd season with the St. Thomas men's soccer team. Lue's teams compiled a 220-128-34 collegiate record, including four MIAC championships and four NCAA tournament berths.

The Tommies have had only two losing seasons in school history, and have a winning record in the all-time series vs. nine of their 10 conference opponents. Over the last four seasons, UST is unbeaten vs. conference power Macalester (3-0-1).

The Tommies play a challenging schedule of games, both in the MIAC and in trips to Wisconsin, Iowa, Colorado or California. Approximately 36 players make the varsity and junior-varsity rosters.
