The Tommie men's swimming and diving teams won nine events and edged Gustavus in Friday night's battle of top-25 ranked teams. UST won the men's dual 155-146 at SCU's Butler Pool.
The Gustie women scored a 168-126 victory over the Tommies.
Double winners for the UST men were Peter Mullee (50 Free, 21.62, and 200 Back, 1:55.93) and Ryan Panure in both one-meter (214.90) and three-meter diving (236.20).
Other winners were freshmen Sam Rauchwarter (200 Free, 1:44.70), Grant Frost (100 Breast, 1:01.36), freshman Michael Hoelterhoff (100 Free, 48.39), sophomore Erik Huls (100 Fly, 53.04) and UST's 400 Medley Relay team of Mullee, Frost, Huls and Rauchwarter in 3:34.81.
For the women, double winners were Becca Ney (200 Free, 1:58.13 and 100 Free, 53:83) and Katie Bromback (200 Fly, 2:13.90, and 100 Fly, 1:01.03). Jena Root (100 Back, 1:00.04) and Sara Wappes (one-meter diving, 160.45) also took firsts.
"The meet was every bit as exciting as Gustie coach Jon Carlson and I expected," said UST coach Tom Hodgson. "There were 20 races between scorers that were decided by less than a half-second."
Men's individual runners-up were Jeff Isaacson in one-meter (207.05) and three-meter diving (233.30); Hoelterhoff in the 50 free (22.44) and 100 back (54.85); Ben Ruhme in the 200 fly (2:01.70); Grant Frost in the 200 breast (2:15.57); and Ethan Nimes in the 200 IM (3:40.57).
Thirds for the men were scored by Mullee in the 200 free (1:46.10); Alec Nielson in the 100 back (56.10); John Stark in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.11); Nimens in the 200 back (2:01.36); and Rauchwarter in the 500 free (4:52.51).
Women's individual runners-up were Wappes in three-meter diving (147.45); Root in the 200 back 2:11.19); Bromback in the 200 IM (2:16.75); Sam Simon in the 500 free (5:24.85) and the 1000 free (11:05.07); and Karly Harrod in the 200 breaststroke (2:35.03).
Thirds for the women were scored by Layla Clauss in the 1000 free (11:09.17) and 500 free (5:27.83); Jenny Bruno in the 200 free (2:01.79), 200 back (2:13.07) and 200 IM (2:18.57); Ali Krieger in the 100 back (1:04.22); Harrod in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.17); and Wendy Consoer in the 50 free (26.12);
St. Thomas will compete next weekend at the U of M Aquatic Center for the Minnesota Challenge.
